How to convert CSV to JSON

A practical walkthrough using this site’s converter. Goal: a JSON array of objects that matches your table — including leading zeros — without sending the file to a server.

1. Prepare a header row

The first line must be unique column names (for example id,name, zip). Duplicate or blank header names stop conversion. Prefer UTF-8 CSV with commas as separators.

2. Open the tool and add your table

Go to the CSV to JSON converter. Either paste the CSV into the input box or choose a .csv file (up to 1 MiB / 10,000 data rows).

3. Preview before you commit

Use Preview rows to see up to five checked rows. If something looks wrong (shifted columns, broken quotes), fix the CSV and try again.

4. Convert, then copy or download

Click Convert to JSON. Every cell becomes a string; empty cells become "". Copy to the clipboard or download a .json file for the next app in your workflow.

Why this path? Spreadsheet exports and ID columns often need text fidelity. This tool’s contract is local processing plus preserve-as-string — see the Excel & leading zeros use case and the FAQ.

5. Check what your next tool expects

Some APIs want numbers, nested objects, or different key casing. This converter intentionally keeps a flat array of string fields so you can transform deliberately afterward.
